Curriculum Enrichment

At Avenue Primary Academy, we provide a wide range of enrichment opportunities designed to enhance and extend our curriculum. We believe that giving children the chance to experience, learn, develop and interact in a variety of contexts is essential to their future success.

Through these opportunities, pupils develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, while also strengthening their oracy by working collaboratively and adapting to different situations. Our enrichment offer includes day trips, workshops, educational visits, guest speakers, drama experiences, and residential visits for pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6.

We also offer Genius Time for all Key Stage 2 pupils. This is a dedicated weekly session that exemplifies our commitment to personal development and wellbeing. Genius Time ensures that every child has the opportunity to take part in a ‘club’, recognising that some pupils may not be able to access extracurricular activities outside of school for a variety of reasons. This inclusive approach reflects our strong belief in supporting the whole child and promoting equal access to enriching experiences.

Genius Time

Intent

Genius Time is unique to Avenue Primary Academy. This is a dedicated weekly slot for all Key Stage 2 children ensuring that  It allows children to engage in enrichment activities where they are encouraged to learn new talents, develop existing hobbies and challenge themselves by trying new activities. It is a chance for all children to develop their resilience, creativity, and confidence, whilst maintaining positive relationships. We provide children with a range of activities that go beyond the National Curriculum and which they may not have access to outside of school.

Implementation

Genius Time is key to instilling life skills that are not taught through the National Curriculum. We use Genius Time to explicitly teach children the Avenue Values of Pride, Perseverance, Respect, Resilience, Teamwork and Equality whilst gaining experience of potential new hobbies and interests.

Genius Time is planned by individual teachers and is based on skills that are not covered in our National Curriculum. Each activity is based around the Avenue Values, which are demonstrated and evaluated against each week.

Impact

As a result of our Genius Time activities, pupils across the school develop a wide range of interests and passions. All pupils develop knowledge and understanding of the Avenue Values and the skills they will need to embed these values into their own lives as they progress throughout school and beyond. Genius Time is monitored through planning checks, sketchbook looks, pupil voice and staff surveys to ensure that we are providing a range of enrichment activities that are well delivered.
