Woodrow - Thursday 12th June

This morning, the children were up and ready for their breakfast of bacon, waffles, pancakes, toast, fruit, yoghurt, and cereal. Everyone was well fed ready for a busy day of fun!

The morning's activities were high ropes (traverse challenge), archery and nightline. The children encouraged each other, and everyone took part and tried their best. High ropes have been a particular highlight for many.

Lunch was beef or vegetable burrito wraps with plenty of choice at the salad bar and a cheesecake or jelly for pudding. After lunch, the children had some free time before some more activities (including shelter build and wacky races), followed by a delicious dinner of pizza!

The children are currently either playing in the lounge or outside on a lovely sunny evening. Soon we are having a campfire with plenty of games, songs, and biscuits.

It has been a great day filled with a variety of fun and challenging activities. The children have shown great teamwork, enthusiasm, and resilience throughout.

From the Year 4 Team

Woodrow - Wednesday 11th June

The children have had a great first day at Woodrow High House.

The coach journey was fairly quick and we arrived in good time to start our adventure! We went straight into a tour of the facilities and a scavenger hunt. After that, we ate our delicious packed lunches. Then, the children got into their activity groups and enjoyed their afternoon activities (including circus skills, challenge course, bushcraft). The children enjoyed learning how to light fires to cook popcorn while working on the value of perseverance. In the challenge course the children worked on their teamwork skills to solve problems together.

We had a delicious dinner of hot dogs, potato wedges and salad with sponge pudding or fruit for dessert, and then we went to our rooms to make our beds, which with a little help was done ready for later.

The children are now outside playing so that we’re nice and tired later for bed (or so the teachers hope?!). Later the children will have some hot chocolate before getting ready for bed.

We are all excited about tomorrow will bring!

Woodrow - Tuesday 10th June 2025

The children were up, washed and hungry for breakfast nice and early this morning! For breakfast there was a choice of waffles, pancakes, toast, fruit, yoghurt and cereal.

After breakfast the children headed out for our activities, including high ropes (traverse challenge), shelter build, challenge course and nightline. A brief spell of rain has meant that some children found some muddy puddles today.

Lunch was chicken or halloumi wraps with potatoes with option to add tomato, cucumber and carrot followed by fruit crumble. After lunch the sun was finally out so the children had some free time to play outside and chat to their friends. Then the children had more activities (including shelter build), followed by a delicious dinner of burgers, chips with lemon cake.

In the evening, the children are having some more free time to play outside with their friends. We will enjoy a hot chocolate and a snack before we head to bed.

The children are all having a wonderful time so please don’t worry about them! They have had a great experience and learnt so much! They have tried new foods, worked as a team, helped and supported each other and faced their fears. They have made their teachers proud of them and represented Avenue school well.

Woodrow - Monday 9th June 2025

The children have had a great first day at Woodrow High House.

We had a good journey here on the coach and the children cheered and clapped excitedly as they spotted the sign indicating that we had arrived at Woodrow!

Once everything was loaded of the coach we were all taken on a quick tour of the house. This was quickly followed by the first activity – Scavenger Hunt! The children enjoyed collaborating with their peers to solve clues and learn more the Woodrow site. As it looked like it might rain, the children enjoyed their lunch inside but then headed back out for the afternoon activities.

The afternoon activities included archery, circus skills, challenge course and bushcraft! The children really developed their skills during these activities and challenged themselves to complete different tasks. The sun even made an appearance.

For dinner the children enjoyed pasta with cheese or tomato sauce, green beans, garlic bread and salad. Following a hearty dinner, the children went to their rooms to make their beds. Here we worked on perseverance. With a bit of help, everyone managed this.

The children are now participating in their evening activity (campfire) so they’re nice and tired later for bed (we hope).

We are all excited about tomorrow will bring!

Conflict Workshop

Year 4 pupils will be taking part in a Conflict Resolution Workshop next week (wb 6.5.25) See below for more information.

Coping-with-Conflict-Poster-for-Parents-Carers.pdf

EdShed Spelling Assignments

All pupils have been given access to EdShed using our school subscription and have access to a programme called 'Spelling Shed'. It is designed to support your child to learn and improve their spellings in a fun and interactive way. They have been practising using this in their classes and have also had the opportunity to use it at home.

Previously we have sent home weekly spelling challenges on paper slips. Instead of the paper slips your child will now be able to access weekly challenges by logging on and going to 'assignments'. These challenges are not designed to take very long and are presented in the form of a game. All other features on EdShed will still be available in addition to the weekly challenge.

DT

Next week (wb 28th April), Year 4 will be making robots in D.T. Please can all children bring in any useful junk materials such as cardboard boxes, toilet roll rubes, youghurt pots and plastic bottle tops.

During the week beginning 10th March, Year 4 will be visiting Sutton Baptist Church for the Easter Experience. There is no reply slip required as all parents and carers were able to select local visit permission on their child's Arbor account. We will be walking to and from the church during the school day.

Raging Romans Hook Activity

Please could all Year 4 pupils bring in a piece of cardboard for the first day back to make a Roman shield as part of their hook into the new topic. Tin foil and yoghurt pots may also be useful.

Thank you to all of the Year 4 children, parents and carers who have very kindly given gifts to the Year 4 staff. We are very grateful! We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. See you on Tuesday 7th January 2025!

Anti - Bullying week is 11th - 15th November

We will be recognising Anti-Bullying Week on Tuesday 12th November (for those classes going to SeaLife, you can still do this for the trip and activities will be completed back in school on another day that week).

Children are invited to come to school wearing odd socks on this day if they would like to.  We wear odd socks to celebrate our uniqueness, challenge stereotypes, and promote acceptance.

Children will be participating in activities on the day which discuss bullying and what they can do if they need help.

Black History Month

Throughout the year there are months that celebrate the history of different groups of people. These months help us to learn more about people, their history and their importance to the wider world. Black History Month is celebrated each year in October. It is a chance to celebrate the achievements of black people past and present. Children will be taking part in activities this month.

World Mental Health Day

Thursday 10th October is World Mental Health Day.  To raise awareness of the importance of good mental health, schools across the country are inviting the children to wear a yellow accessory to school for the day if they would like to. Yellow is a colour that symbolises hope, optimism and happiness.

In class, children will be taking part in an activity to discuss mental health.

Children must still be in full uniform but can also wear something yellow such as:

Yellow socks

Yellow badge

Yellow ribbon

Yellow hat

Yellow hair accessory

Or any other yellow accessory you can think of!

Children do NOT need to bring in any money or donations and the yellow accessory is voluntary.

Parent Forum

Thank you to those parents who were able to attend the parent forum this morning. Attached is a copy of the slides so any parents or carers that were unable to attend can view the key messages about Year 4.

Kind regards,

Miss Morgan
