Young Artists' Summer Show

The Young Artists’ Summer Show is a wonderful opportunity for UK-based artists and schools to engage creatively in the making and sharing of a piece of artwork that truly expresses their own voice.

For a chance to exhibit your work at the Royal Academy of Arts both online and onsite, please read the follow guidance and attachments.

There is no theme and artists aged 4-19 can submit a wide range of works which may include drawing, painting, printing, photography, sculpture, textile, fashion, animation, video, or surprise us!

You are required to complete the permissions form which must be attached for us to be able to submit your child's work.

The art work must be completed independently by your child.

Each submission can include a short artist statement ideally by the child.

Please can all art works, that wish to be submitted, be returned to the school office by  Wednesday 20th March.

Happy Creating!

To Parents and Carers,

We have become aware of a large number of children wearing scarves during the Winter months. Unfortunately these pose a safety risk to our children - a choking risk-  and therefore we will not be allowing children to wear these to school. Coats can be zipped up fully to keep children warm.

We hope that you understand why this has been necessary and support the School to keep our children safe.

Many thanks,

Miss Guy

Mock SATs

Dear Parents and Carers,

Next week (WB 29/01/24) Year 6 will be having mock SATs. We do this so that the children get a feel for how the SATs will be when we do them in May. Some children will take the tests in the hall and some children take them in classrooms (this is done so that they can all spread out comfortably). There is no preparation needed, it is purely to familiarise the children with what SATs week will look like... a dress rehearsal!

Thank you

Hindleap Warren Lost Property

Dear Parents / Carers,

There is no lost property from our Hindleap adventure. Once the children vacated their bedrooms, staff did a sweep of all rooms and returned all named items to the children.

Staff then did a sweep of all of the drying rooms and again, returned all named items to the children.

Hindleap were lending the children spare waterproof trousers, jackets and wellies all week so we had to assume that the unnamed items were belonging to Hindleap.

We did find the odd pair of pants and socks on the floor of the drying rooms but they were disposed of. There hasn't been a washing machine invented yet that would have been able to make them wearable again.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

Mrs. Cook

Day 4: Thursday

Another great night’s sleep, with no shenanigans, so the disco was on. The excitement was palpable.

Breakfast was Scrambled eggs, baked beans and hashbrowns. Everyone could also help themselves to porridge, fruit salad, yoghurt, toast and cereal. Everyone ate well and headed off to their morning activities. When I’m home, ask me how I built my shelter.

Ask me about my map reading skills.

Lunch was hot dogs, fried onions and waffle fries. Everyone serving the food is really nice and listening to us when we ask for things on the side or alternatives.

Back out again for more activities. We’re still not mentioning the weather, but that thing that hasn’t been happening still isn’t happening. Please don’t imagine this will have any bearing on the state of our kit when we return however!

Dinner was roasted BBQ chicken or vegan BBQ roast with roasted wedges and mixed veg. Everyone cleared their plates again.

Right now we are at the disco, busting a move. A little known fact about Mrs. Bee is that, before she became a teacher, she was infact the headlining DJ at the Ministry of Sound in London. Some skills never leave you, and she’s spinning her decks like the good ol’ days…

Return Journey

We are setting off tomorrow afternoon and are due back around 3.00 at Dorset Road gate. We will try to keep you updated with a more exact time but if you don’t hear from us, come at 3.00. Please do not call the office.

We know you will be pleased to see us, but please stand well back and let us off the coach, and safely through the gates into the playground. No child will be dismissed from the roadside.

If you need medication back straight away, then please ask a teacher. If it can wait, then please collect it at pick up on Monday (it will be brought out with the children).

Any lost property will also be brought out at the end of the day on Monday for you to look through. We will not be able to sort out lost property at tomorrow’s pick up.

We’re all looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Love Year 6 xxx

Day 3: Wednesday

The Teachers all awoke to the most beautiful sunrise this morning.

The children on the other hand slept through and had to be plucked from their beds! Breakfast was a choice of cereal, toast, yogurt, fresh fruit and pastries.

I’d like to tell you that they’re all making their beds every morning and keeping their rooms tidy… but lying is a terrible trait.

We don’t want to jinx the weather by talking about it. Just know that the R word is still staying away. Unprecedented.

Lunch was a jacket potato with a tasty topping of our choice. As always, there was a lovely fresh salad bar to choose from too.

Back out to the activities after lunch and everyone is being so brave and challenging themselves to do things that they didn’t think they could do. When I get home, ask me to tell you about one thing that I did that was out of my “comfort zone” and one thing I did to encourage or support a friend.

Ask me how we made a fire.

Ask me about the obstacle course.

Dinner was Mac and Cheese,  Bolognese pasta or pasta with a tomato sauce with garlic bread. Everyone cleared their plates again. It’s hungry work wading through muddy puddles!

Half of us are heading off on the night walk now and the other half are having a camp fire.

The plan is to have a disco tomorrow night but whether it goes ahead or not depends on our behaviour. We have been amazing so far, so providing there’s no shenanigans at bedtime tonight, it’s on! The teachers are furiously airing their spandex jumpsuits in hopeful anticipation…

STILL no need to worry… we are having so much fun.

Love Year 6 xxx

Day 2: Tuesday

Apart from, what’s known in the trade as, a bit of first night shenanigans everyone got a good night’s sleep last night! We were all up early this morning and raring to go.  Breakfast was a choice of eggs, bacon, cereal, toast, porridge, yogurt…or the whole lot for the hungrier amongst us! All dietary requirements are being strictly adhered to and the “fussy eaters” we were warned about are nowhere to be seen!

The Hindleap miracle continues and we have only had a short, light drizzle. Mrs. Cook is contacting The Guinness Book of World Records as we speak.

Lunch was chicken or vegetable fajitas, Mexican rice and cheesy nachos. Every lunch and dinner also has a salad bar with lots to choose from.  The carrot cake was delicious!

Then it was off to our next set of activities and everyone is really getting into the swings of things now (quite literally!) When I get home ask me about the tunnels, leap of faith and forest adventure!

Dinner was meatballs (and vegan nonmeat balls!) with mash and peas… all washed down with sticky toffee pudding.

It’s Tuck Shop and movie night tonight and then, like last night,  it will be Hot Chocolate and off to bed.

Still no need to worry about us… we’re having a ball

Love Year 6 xxx

PS Mrs. Bee is less “Glamour Barbie” and more “Swamp Chic” after Forest Adventure today!

Day 1: Monday

The coach ride was quick and easy and we all arrived in good time with no travel sickness. As soon as we got here we found out where our rooms were, made our beds and settled in.

Once our rooms were sorted, we had our packed lunch, got our waterproofs on and headed out to our first activity which everyone loved. Then we had our second activity and before we knew it...it was dinner time!

Dinner was pizza (margarita) with French fries and sweetcorn and peas. Pudding was apple crumble and custard. Everyone was very hungry from the activities and cleared their plates!

After dinner, we had some down time with our friends in our rooms. Very soon, half of us are heading off for a campfire, whilst the other half are going on a night walk. When we return we will have a hot chocolate and head to bed.

After a bit of chit chat it will be lights out as we have a jam packed schedule in the morning!

We are all safe, warm and happy so please don’t worry about us! (We are also dry, which is a little Hindleap miracle!)

Love Year 6 xxx

PS Mrs. Bee has brought some “Barbie Glamour” to the forest!

World Mental Health Day

Today, we have celebrated World Mental Health Day. The theme of the day has been 'Mental Health is a universal right' and the children have completed a range of activities to help them to understand this. We focused on the idea of being kind, not only to others, but to yourself too.

The children played kindness bingo throughout the day which included things such as 'say hello to someone new' and 'write down 3 things you love about you.' All of the children finished the day by writing themselves a kindness postcard, remembering a time where they had done something great.

Year 6 DT 10.10.23:

WhatsApp Groups

I have been made aware of class WhatsApp groups containing multiple Year 6  pupils.

The minimum age for using WhatsApp is 16Please read the information on the link below before deciding whether you want your child to use this app. You might not be aware, for example, that your child’s live location can shared via the app.

If you do decide to allow them to use WhatsApp, this link also contains information on keeping them safe including disabling the option for your child to be added to groups without permission.

WhatsApp groups with multiple people in are incredibly difficult to navigate and children often find themselves saying things that they wouldn't normally say, or being drawn into conversations that they are uncomfortable with. Children can also be seen to be complicit just because they are a member of a group chat.  Please speak to your child today and ask them to show you their phone and the groups they are in.

Thank you for your continued support,

Dear Parents and Carers,

The deadline for signing up for the Year 6 residential trip has long passed (Friday 30th June).  If you have not signed up, but wish your child to attend, you must pay the deposit of £80 as a matter of urgency.  Please pay via your child's Arbor account.

The deadline for full payment has been extended to Wednesday 18th October. If you want your child to keep their place on the trip, full payment must be made by this date.

Please contact Mrs. Vennard in the school office if you have any questions regarding payment.

Sun Safety

As the warm weather is still with us, we need to continue with sun safety.

Please provide your child with a named sun hat and ensure that they have a named plastic water bottle (with sports cap opening).

If your child requires sun cream, please ensure they apply it before school. If you wish them to reapply sun cream before breaktimes, lunchtimes or outdoor PE, please provide them with a named bottle. Staff are not allowed to apply sun cream to children, so please ensure that your child can apply it themselves.
