John started his career as a navigating officer in the merchant navy before working for the London Borough of Croydon managing leisure centres and teaching swimming. He has recently retired from the Metropolitan Police Service where he served as an officer for 25 Years. He spent 9 years as the local beat officer in Belmont and was a familiar face at Avenue Primary before taking on the role as a safer schools police officer primarily for secondary schools in the Borough, where he assisted them with discipline issues, investigated crime within schools and delivering safety and crime prevention talks. He also set up and ran Junior police cadets and assisted with the two senior sections. He is now working part time for Surrey County Council as an outdoor education instructor at High Ashurst and Thames Young Mariners. He also keeps busy as a Cub Scout leader, helps run a local Table Tennis club and continues to assist as a volunteer with Police cadets.
