Rights Respecting- Climate Change
This year our pupils have learnt about climate change and what they can do to help prevent it. The key stage 2 children were very interested in this topic and had important views on their future and climate change. They wrote their own articles about climate change, informing others of the current situation and what we can do to improve it. Congratulations to the following children whose work was sent to our new local MP Luke Taylor.

! Year 5 Sports Day Postponed !
Unfortunately, the weather prediction for tomorrow is heavy rain so we have made the difficult decision to postpone Year 5 Sports Day.
The new date will be: Monday 8th July (8.45 - 9.45)
We know how difficult it is to juggle work and school events so I am hoping that by making the decision now we have given you more of a chance to be able to move things around and attend.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support,
Mrs. Cook

Day 4: Normandy 4:09pm UK time
We have arrived in the UK!
Day 4: Normandy 4:15pm French time
We are now boarding Le Shuttle! See you soon!
Day 4: Normandy (8:40am French time)
We have left the hotel and we are on our return journey home. See you all at 6pm on Dorset Road.
Day 3: Normandy 9:53pm (French time)
It was almost a 2 hour drive to the Chateau de Crevecoeur. When we arrived we enjoyed our packed lunches in the castle gardens.
The children listened to the history of the castle as it belonged to a Lord. They were given lots of information about the gatehouse, the dovecote, the farm, the barn and the chapel, which they then needed to use as part of a treasure hunt.
It was a race against time, as each group had to work together to figure out the clues to find the next message, which led to the treasure chest!
The children had a great time at the Chateau and learnt so much about the history here!
We then set off for another 2 hour drive to the Biscuterie in St-Mere-Eglise.
Here the children tried a variety of biscuits from the factory that contained only natural ingredients which were all sourced locally. The children loved every single biscuit they tried. Their faces as they ate the biscuits showed the staff that they were happy!
They were then given the opportunity to buy some of these delicious biscuits (I have asked them to save some for the parents to try... I cannot guarantee it will get to you!)
Following the Biscuterie, we walked to the St-Mere-Eglise, where the children saw where Soldier John Steele became famous by hanging on to the church tower of this small town during Operation Overlord with his parachute.
We have now just finished our delicious 3 course meal and we are going to pack so that we are ready for our return journey home.
The children have had a fantastic trip! They have learnt so much and have represented Avenue extremely well in Normandy!
Á demain á 18H!
Day 3: Normandy 10:46am (French time)
It was an early wake up today with breakfast at 7:45am.
At 9am we set off walking to the Chevrerie du Mesnil (a traditional goat's farm).
The children watched a detailed video on how the farmers look after their goats so that they can produce the best quality milk for their cheese production.
This was followed by the children being able to pet and hold the goats and try a selection of cheeses, which they all loved!
We are now back on the coach heading to the Chateau de Crevecoeur.
Day 2: Normandy 9pm (French time)
What a busy day today has been!
The children had a delicious breakfast at 8am filled with a selection of fresh pastries, cereals, fruit, cheese and even hot chocolate.
We set off at 9am with our packed lunches to the D-Day Experience Museum, and what an experience it was! The children experienced the mythical crossing on the channel towards Normandy by boarding an authentic C-47 aircraft turned into a high-tech flight simulator.
This was then followed by a visit of the museum looking at all the artefacts that used to belong to the soldiers. We then watched a 45 minute film about how the soldiers prepared for the D-Day landings. The visit of this fantastic museum ended with visiting "Dead Man's Corner", which was filled with more artefacts.
We then set off to the "Boulangerie" where every child made their own delicious bread and learnt how to manually grind flour.
We ended the day visiting a beach with a history, Utah Beach, where American troops landed on the 6th June 1944.
After a long day, we headed back to the hotel for dinner, where once again the children had a 4 course meal!
The children have thoroughly enjoyed themselves today and are excited for what Day 3 will bring!
Day 1: Normandy
Update 9:39pm
The children have all settled well into their ensuite rooms.
They have enjoyed a a fabulous 4 course meal (Yes 4 courses!) which included eating ESCARGOTS! Ooh la la delicieux!
They are all in bed ready for another busy day tomorrow!

For a chance to exhibit your work at the Royal Academy of Arts both online and onsite, please read the follow guidance and attachments.
There is no theme and artists aged 4-19 can submit a wide range of works which may include drawing, painting, printing, photography, sculpture, textile, fashion, animation, video, or surprise us!
You are required to complete the permissions form which must be attached for us to be able to submit your child's work.
The art work must be completed independently by your child.
Each submission can include a short artist statement ideally by the child.
Please can all art works, that wish to be submitted, be returned to the school office by Wednesday 20th March.
Happy Creating!
Dear Parents and Carers,
As part of our topic, 'Circle of Life' we will be studying the changes in the human lifecycle, from baby to adult. Please can you send your child in with a picture of them as a baby or toddler if you have these available after half term. It would be great for them to share these with each other.
Have a lovely half term and thank you for your continued support,

Spring 2 Week 1 Learning Journeys
To Parents and Carers,
We have become aware of a large number of children wearing scarves during the Winter months. Unfortunately these pose a safety risk to our children - a choking risk- and therefore we will not be allowing children to wear these to school. Coats can be zipped up fully to keep children warm.
We hope that you understand why this has been necessary and support the School to keep our children safe.
Many thanks,
Miss Guy

Dear Year 5 parents/guardians,
In DT next week, the children will be weaving using wool to create different patterns. Weaving is an ancient technique used by he Anglo-Saxons to create blankets and other garments. If you have any spare wool at home that you do not want, please could you donate it for Year 5 to use this week.
Thanks,
The Year 5 team.
World Mental Health Day
Today, we have celebrated World Mental Health Day. The theme of the day has been 'Mental Health is a universal right' and the children have completed a range of activities to help them to understand this. We focused on the idea of being kind, not only to others, but to yourself too.
The children played kindness bingo throughout the day which included things such as 'say hello to someone new' and 'write down 3 things you love about you.' All of the children finished the day by writing themselves a kindness postcard, remembering a time where they had done something great.
