Our Nursery accepts children in the September following their third birthday. 
Although some schools stagger their entry and accept children later in the year, as a popular and over-subscribed school, we are able to fill our places in the single intake. Should we have a space in our Nursery, we are able to offer it to anyone on our waiting list (where we apply our admissions criteria for this purpose) from that cohort of children, and then to younger children who are three (i.e. who would be in the next cohort).

Our Nursery has two sessions each day, and children attend either five mornings or five afternoons each week (38 weeks). There are 26 children in each session. We also offer ten 30 hour places.

Children in the Nursery do not automatically transfer to the main school when they enter Reception. If you have a child in our Nursery and wish them to continue into Reception, you must apply for a place by 15th January via the Sutton Council website.

Children enter Reception in the September following their fourth birthday. Classes are of mixed ability and mixed gender, and there are normally 30 children in each class. The school has an intake of 120 pupils at entry, and there are therefore 4 classes in Reception. We have 3 year groups that are currently 150 children, therefore 5 classes. 

Each year, all the children in a year group are mixed to form their new classes for the following year. 

Children in the Nursery and in Reception are in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Children in Year 1 and Year 2 are in Key Stage One (KS1). Sometimes both of these groups are referred to as ‘infants’. All of our infant classes are named after mini-beasts (e.g. Ladybird Class, Incy Wincy Spider Class, Glow Worm Class).

Children in Years 3 to 6 are in Key Stage Two (KS2) and are often referred to as ‘juniors’. Classes are named after the year group and teacher’s initial (e.g. 5J).

The SEN Opportunity Base for Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at Avenue is a provision for  children with Special Educational Needs. Children are admitted to the Base by the London Borough of Sutton where the SEN Opportunity Base at Avenue is named on their EHC Plan.
