Mental Health and Wellbeing
Mental Health in Schools Trailblazer Pilot
Avenue Primary Academy is taking part in a trailblazer project to improve mental health for children and young people in South West London. We have been selected as one of around 70 schools to be part of a pilot receiving extra resources to support our pupils with their mental health, wellbeing and emotional resilience. This is linked to a national initiative following the Government’s Green Paper on children and young people’s mental health. We are working with other selected schools in Sutton, as well as GPs and mental health professionals.
The trailblazer means that we have access to Education Wellbeing Practitioners who will offer both one-to-one support and group work sessions for our pupils, parents and carers. The sessions give children practical skills for managing a range of feelings and offer parents and carers an opportunity to practise the conversations that encourage better mental health and wellbeing.
The schools involved in the trailblazer have produced the following directory which has further support services, helplines and tips:
Mental Health First Aiders
We have members of staff who are trained Adult Mental Health First Aiders and Youth Mental Health First Aiders.
