Black History Month

Throughout the year there are months that celebrate the history of different groups of people. These months help us to learn more about people, their history and their importance to the wider world. Black History Month is celebrated each year in October. It is a chance to celebrate the achievements of black people past and present.

PE changes

Grasshopper's will now have PE on the following days: 

Tuesday and Thursday

A reminder that these days often change and so from next week, please ensure that your child's PE bag is in school everyday. PE bags will be sent home at half term so that they can be washed. 

Zen Den Hook Day Reminder

A reminder that on Friday 15^th September, Year 1 will be having their hook day as part of our topic, Zen Den. Children should come to school dressed in comfortable clothes suitable for exercise e.g. jogging bottoms, shorts, t-shirt, trainers, plimsolls.

No football kits or shirts please.

Year 1 children have had a fantastic first week and they have settled very well. 

Please check the year group page regularly, as this is where we will post important information.

Today, your child will receive their home school liaison book, along with a book from our reading scheme. Please read with your child daily (at least 3 times a week) and comment in their green book each time they read. Please ensure that your child’s reading book and home school liaison book is in their bag each day.

Zen Den Hook Day:

Friday 15th September

On Friday 15^th September, Year 1 will have their Zen Den hook day. We will take part in a range of physical exercises and mindfulness activities. On this day, we would like children to come to school dressed in comfortable clothes suitable for exercise e.g. jogging bottoms, shorts, t-shirt, trainers, plimsolls.

Year 1 PE Days

Children will have PE on the following days: 

Ants - Monday and Thursday

Crickets - Monday and Thursday 

Ladybirds - Tuesday and Wednesday 

Grasshoppers - Tuesday and Wednesday

Open Classroom Today @3:15

We look forward to welcoming you to our open classrooms today after school at 3:15 - 3:45. Please collect your child from the Dorset Road playground at the normal time of 3:05. Once all children have been dismissed, you will then be able to enter your child's classroom.

Swimming

Year 1 children will not swim in the Autumn term. Children will swim in the Summer term and more information will be provided nearer the time. 

Sun Safety 

As the warm weather is still with us, we need to continue with sun safety. 

Please provide your child with a named sun hat and ensure that they have a named plastic water bottle (with sports cap opening). 

If your child requires sun cream, please ensure they apply it before school. If you wish them to reapply sun cream before breaktimes, lunchtimes or outdoor PE, please provide them with a named bottle. Staff are not allowed to apply sun cream to children, so please ensure that your child can apply it themselves.
