Older ASC gallery and information posts up to 5th February 2024

29th January Week

 

This week our younger room have been enjoying the year 2 topic 'Brilliant Britain'. They have made their own soldier bookmarks, flags, london skyline pictures and taken a trip to the 'Avenue Carvery'. Dishing up their own roast dinners and making their ideal plate. We even had some children take on the role of servers, helping to hand out the food to the other children. 

Our older room have been focusing on the year 5 topic 'Lost In Space' and the year 6 topic 'Survival Of The Fittest'. Making fabulous space helmets, astronauts and Galapagos giant tortoises. They even had time to create a new display of snowdrop flowers for the front reception. 

Friday the children took part in a science experiment with milk, food colouring and washing up liquid. These made some amazing patterns and they all enjoyed creating different designs. 

22nd January Week

 

This week our younger room have been making crafts based on the year  1 topic 'Castles'. We also had a play around with some fairytale crafts. They have been making some great 3D castles, 3 little pigs crowns, a Rapunzel picture and a frog prince.

Our older room have been looking at the year 4 topic 'Stone Age'. Making some brilliant Stonehenge models, mammoth colour by number pictures, stone age houses and 3D stone age characters. 

For 'Fun Friday' all of the children participated in bread painting. We mix food dye with milk and they can paint bread, we then toast it and it makes a tasty colourful snack. 

15th January week

 

This week our younger room have been making crafts base on the Reception year group topic 'Our world'. They have made some lovely world pictures, aeroplanes and a family tree. 

The older children are looking at the Year 3 topic 'Mirror Mirror'. They've produced some fantastic weaved mermaids, Little Red Riding Hood PlayDoh creations and Tinkerbell. 

Friday the children used their creativeness to the maximum with a junk modelling afternoon, using their imaginations to create some brilliant crafts. 

9th January Week

 

This week, both of the rooms have been enjoying all crafts winter! From winter hats, winter trees and snowmen to penguins and polar bears. Fridays activity the children loved decorating biscuits to look like melted snowmen. We even managed to brave the weather and go outside to play this week. 

4th December Week

 

This week our younger room have been enjoying a variety of Christmas crafts including snowman handprint pictures and winter hats as well as lots of Playdoh fun, scratch art and bracelet making. 

 

The older children have been looking at the year 6 topic 'Brilliant British Inventors'. Making some fantastic lightbulbs and telephones. They have also been getting creative with Aqua Beads and colouring.

 

Friday afternoon both rooms enjoyed making their own Xmas tree decorations.

13th November week 

 

This week our younger room have been doing crafts relating to the year 1 topic 'Toys and Games'. Making some puzzles, planes and a Thaumatrope. 

Our older children have been enjoying the year 3 topic 'protect our planet'. Making some lovely apples, planets and turtles. 

Friday the children all joined in with junk modelling, we had so many fantastic creations from teddy bear costumes to guitars!

6th November week 

 

This week we have been celebrating Guy Fawkes night, Diwali and Rememberance day with a variety of crafts.

Friday afternoon the children enjoyed a tasty pizza making afternoon in the shape of Rememberance poppies.

The children also worked together to build a fort, and had fun in the play kitchen making the staff lots of fun food creations. 

16th October Week 

 

This week the younger children have been continuing with their Halloween themed crafts with the older children starting this also. 

Lots of spiders, bats, decorations and pumpkins!

Fridays activity was a Halloween themed scavenger hunt. The children were sat down to watch a short movie about the story of a witch named Glinda who had lost her cats within the school. All 42 of them! The children then had lots of fun searching around the school for them, if they returned all 42 cats to their bed again they would receive a special reward (popcorn and a drink). 

9th October week 

 

This week the younger room have started their Halloween crafts early! With the older room focusing on all things Autumn. 

Fridays activity was thoroughly enjoyed by the children as they were able to make some yummy 'mummy pizzas'. 

2nd October week 

 

This week the younger children have been enjoying lots of autumn crafts including rainbow hedgehogs, tissue paper trees and owls. The older children have been exploring the Year 6 topic 'Polar Regions'. Making some lovely polar bear and igloo pictures along with a walrus. 

Friday afternoon we decided to get into the Halloween spirit early and made our own pumpkin biscuits. We have had lot soft outdoor play this week with the weather being dry and finished Friday afternoon again with a film and dinner in the hall. 

25th September Week 

 

This week our younger room have been enjoying crafts based on the year 2 topic 'Growing Up'. We have made some healthy salad plates, paper plate watermelons and some handprint pictures with questions on what we might be like when we grow up. 

The older room have been looking at the year 5 topic 'Dark Ages'. They have made some great shields, masks and some lovely colourings. 

Both rooms have also worked hard to create a new display for the school reception area. You may have seen our fantastic leaf fairies when you have come in to collect. 

Friday the children enjoyed some messy fun by making some stress balls out of balloons and flour followed by a cosy film in the hall with dinner. 

4th September week

 

This week we have all been getting used to being back in routine and getting up early. We have tried to make this week as easy and calm as possible for those children who may be struggling with the longer days in ASC back at school. 

We have enjoyed a range of 'free' craft activities and general play to keep everybody happy including a film here and there for those who are more tired than others. 

 

10th July week 

 

This week both rooms have enjoyed a range of free activities and crafts including, wool rainbows, make your own pizza, caterpillars, owls, 3d watermelons and strawberries, butterflies and ice creams. 

The children always love an activity that they can eat, so we try to do as they wish as often as we can. This Friday the children loved making apple donuts. Made from sliced apples and icing with sprinkles. 

26th June week

 

This week the younger children have looked a little into Receptions topic 'Living things' focusing on minibeasts including butterflies, bees and ladybird. 

Our older room have enjoyed a free range of activities, making positivity caps, umbrellas and watermelon fans. 

On Wednesday both of the rooms were able to visit our environmental area to go on a minibeast hunt. The children enjoyed this so much, and found lots of insects to tick off of their list. 

5th June week

 

This week with it being lovely weather we have been able to spend more time outside.  The children love being outdoors and playing games, we have a variety of outdoor toys and equipment, we also set up a craft table for those that want some time in the shade. 

 We have enjoyed origami, tissue paper cats, cotton bud crafts and masks. The older children have produced some fantastic pieces of art based on the film 'Up'. This is proudly displayed in the school reception area for staff and visitors to see. 

Friday afternoon the children made their own nature potions using materials they could find around the playground, glitter and coloured waters.

22nd May week 

 

This week the younger children have made some lovely crafts. They've enjoyed lots of painting, making a baby sloth hanging from a tree and a 3d ice cream picture. 

The older children have made some fantastic sea silhouette paintings which are on display in the school reception. They have also enjoyed weaving fish, outdoor games and making stretchy pets. 

Friday the children got very creative and made salad faces. The results were brilliant seeing the different ideas that they all had. 

Friday 19th May 

 

The rooms joined together today to have some outdoor fun. The children made snake bubbles together and enjoyed seeing how big they could make it grow.

A few of the children today did not want to leave so early today, as they were enjoying Friday movie time too much. The movie this afternoon was called 'Dreambuilders' incase anybody would like to continue watching together at home.

8th May week 

 

This week our younger room have been enjoying free crafts again. Making moon and stars models, creating their own masks and some cupcake bird pictures.

The older children have been looking at the year 5 topic 'Tudors'. 

They loved making some pop up Tudor houses, weaving and colourings. 

On Fun Friday, the children made some tasty 'fairy bread'. 

 

 

 

 

 

1st May week 

 

The younger room have now finished crafts for their year group topics. So we were able to do free crafts. These included finger painted snails, a 3d apple tree, and a happy caterpillar. 

The older children celebrated the kings coronation by creating lots of coronation crafts. They have made some bunting which was used to decorate the great hall for the coronation lunch, seen by all pupils in the school. They also made a union jack windmill and some fantastic art work which is now displayed in the school reception area. 

On Friday everyone had lots of fun decorating and eating some delicious crown biscuits in celebration of the king. 

24th April week 

 

This week our younger room have been looking at the year 1 topic 'Beside the seaside'. They have been painting shells, sponge painting ice creams, jelly fish and finger painting. 

Our older room have enjoyed crafts relating to the year 4 topic 'journey to japan'. They have loved making some amazing blossom tree paintings, japanese colourings, felt sushi and a 3d blossom tree. 

Friday was a very creative day all round. The children all enjoyed junk modelling. Making many different fantastic creations. 

17th April week 

 

The younger room this week have been enjoying crafts based on the Reception topic 'commotion in the ocean'. Making some lovely glitter sea horses, mosaic collage fish and paper plate crabs. On Wednesday we took the children out in the sunshine to get creative with chalk, they created some great ocean themed chalk drawings. 

Our older room have been enjoying crafts based on the year 3 topic 'happy healthy me'. They have made some wonderful bubble wrap art pictures of fruit and vegetables, a healthy teeth playdoh activity and fruit and vegetable lacing cards. 

Other activities have included sand art and Hamma beads.

On Friday we all made some jam and marmalade sandwich lollipops, with some children trying marmalade for the first time! Unfortunately we were unable to watch a movie on Friday, so the younger children were treated to an improvised show performed by the older room. 

Please note as of next week there have been some changes to the After School Club menu. This will be updated on the website. 

13th March week 

 

Our younger room have been enjoying lots of different crafts this week. We've made our own potato head people, a paper chain crocodile, and some lovely bracelets for mothers day.

Our older room have been looking at the year 6 topic 'Mystical Mayans'. They have made a lovely Mayan relic, decorated a Mayan drinking cup and Mayan hats. They have also found some time to make beautiful bracelets and keyrings for mothers day. 

Friday this week we celebrated Red nose day. The children loved decorating their biscuits with their own design of a red nose face. 

6TH March Week

 

This week our younger room have been doing various different crafts. We have made a bouncy paper chick, animal masks and lots of play doh fun. We also had fun at our very own play shop.

Our older room have been enjoying the year 5 topic 'circle of life'. They have created some beautiful life cycles of the frog, butterfly and plant.  

They have also worked hard to create a lovely snowdrop flower display for the main reception area. 

27th Feb week 

 

This week our younger room have been looking at the year 1 topic 'Carnival of the animals'. They have made some sheep, colourful parrots, lion paintings and a tissue paper snail. 

Our older room have been making crafts on the year 4 topic 'Raging Romans'. They have made some paper model characters, a roman bookmark, and completed some roman numeral dot to dots and word searches. 

On Friday we celebrated world book day by making our very own Butterbeer from one of the most famous books around, Harry Potter. The majority of the children absolutely loved it although it was very sweet! 

 

 

 

20th February week 

 

This week the younger children have been looking at Receptions topic 'our world/space'. We have made some superhero bookmarks, superhero figures and a happy earth picture. 

 

Our older room have been looking at the year 3 topic ' Extreme earth'. The children have created some fantastic 3d volcano pictures and fossil art. 

 

Both rooms celebrated pancake day by making their own paper pancakes. 

 

Friday afternoon our younger room enjoyed getting very messy with their very own car wash and the older children have been working on their weaving skills using looms. We would also like to thank again our volunteers who helped to collect  litter from around the playgrounds. They managed to collect 3 bags full! Then a well deserved break with dinner and a movie in the hall. 

6th February week 

 

This week both the older and younger room have been enjoying valentines activities. The younger children have made a valentine caterpillar and cat, made some lovely finger painting hearts and practiced their sewing skills with a wool heart. 

Our older children have made a valentine Gonk, a tissue paper wreath, valentine heart printing and a valentine origami message card. 

With the weather being better this week we have been able to go out to play which the children always enjoy doing. 

On Friday, After School Club were surprised with a Valentine themed scavenger hunt around the school. On return to their room, they were treated to strawberries and cream which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. 

30th January week 

 

This week our younger room have had a fun week making lots of different things. We have made masks, feathered birds and sculpting with packing peanuts. 

Our older room are working on the year 6 topic 'survival of the fittest', focusing on the Galapagos Islands and evolution. Crafts included monkey masks and finger puppets, giant tortoises, the blue-footed booby bird and volcanos. 

Friday afternoon the children and staff had a great time with a fun science experiment. Mixing bicarbonate of soda with white vinegar into a bottle, we saw how this creates a gas reaction and blows up the balloon on top of the bottle with some hilarious results. 

16th Jan week 

 

Our younger room have been creating some lovely crafts based on the year 1 topic "oh i do like to be beside the seaside". These have included cotton wool ice creams and painting shells.

The older children have been enjoying the year 4 topic "portals to the past". Making some great stone age cave art, 3d mammoths and cave paintings. 

Friday the children played lucky dip play doh. They could choose an idea to make out of a bowl, then try their best to make it. 

As always the children enjoyed a relaxing movie in the hall whilst eating their dinner. 

9th January week 

 

This week our younger room are enjoying crafts based on the Reception topic "commotion in the ocean". We have made some colourful 3d fish, a paper chain octopus, a realistic starfish and a mosaic style sea turtle. 

Our older room have been looking at the year 3 topic "mirror mirror" enjoying all things fairytale. We have made some play doh red riding hood pictures, a Rapunzel picture with plaited hair, the three little pigs and goldilocks art. 

Friday the children enjoyed making silly putty. Afterwards, they were able to relax after a hard week and eat their dinner in the hall whilst watching a movie on the big screen. 

5th December week 

 

This week we have been enjoying all things winter! Both rooms have created so many lovely winter crafts. 

The week was finished off with a melted snowman biscuit decorating activity which went down very well with the children. 

28th November week 

 

This week we are enjoying all things winter and getting into the Christmas spirit. We have made penguin pictures, snowflakes, winter hats, snow globes, junk modelling and so much more. 

Friday the children were able to play with 'snow', the children had great fun shaping, playing and generally making a complete mess with it!

21st November week 

 

This week our younger room have been looking at the year 2 topic 'Down Under'. We have made some lovely kangaroos, emus, a coral reef and nemo paintings. 

Our older room have had a generally crafty week, taking the time to do what the children chose to do. The activities included making an advent calendar for their room, Hama beads, Aqua beads and Loom bands. 

Friday's activity the children decorated some lovely football biscuits to celebrate the world cup. 

14th November week 

 

This week our younger room have been creating their very own toys for the year 1 topic 'Toys and Games'. They have created some catch a ball cups, a toy car, a musical shaker and had some great fun playing with the best toy of all, Play-Doh. 

Our older room have been looking at the year 5 topic 'Europe'. With lots of crafty creations based on France, Spain, Italy and Germany. 

Friday we celebrated Children in need by making our own key rings and necklaces to take home. 

7th November week 

 

This week the younger children have been looking at Receptions current topic 'Celebrations'. They have enjoyed making Chinese new year dragons, designing their own birthday cakes, making valentines jewellery and creating a wedding bouquet.

The older children have created some lovely water lilies and a water cycle spinner. They have also spent some time making Rememberance Day poppies and wreaths. 

Friday the children had so much fun making and decorating their own poppy biscuits. 

 

 

31st October week 

 

We have been creating firework pictures this week, using different methods including blowing with straws. 

The older children have been enjoying the year 3 topic 'Protect our planet'. 

17th October week 

 

This week we have created lots of Halloween crafts. We finished the week off with a scavenger hunt around the school looking for clues, then we used our secret spy pens to work out the Halloween related word. 

As a special treat for the end of half term the children made some delicious spider biscuits. 

10th October week 

 

This week we have been enjoying lots of autumn crafts. The older room produced some fantastic pictures using autumn leaves as hair. Fridays activity the children had lots of messy fun with salt painting. 

Week beginning 3rd October

 

Our younger room have been looking at the year 2 topic 'Growing up'. We have been painting with lemons and making pinapples and discussing eating healthy. 

The older children have been looking at the year 6 topic 'Polar regions'. Making some fantastic igloos and enjoying polar regions mindfulness colouring. 

Friday the children took it in turns to paint bread. They had so much mixing milk and food colouring, toasting and making a masterpiece they could eat.

 

Week beginning 26th September

 

The younger children have been creating some Autumn masterpieces this week. Glittery owls, fork painting hedgehogs, puffy tailed squirrels and scarecrows.

 

The older children have enjoyed the year 5 topic 'Dark ages'. Lots of viking long ships, word searches and colourings, shields and a 3d round house. 

 

Friday the children found their inner creativity with junk modelling. From cat houses to Egyptian tombs, there were many different creations. 

Week beginning 19th September

 

Our younger room have been working on 'Zen den' which is the year 1 topic. They have made some lovely self models, rainbow wands and dot paintings. 

 

The older room enjoyed an autumn crafts week with fork hedgehog painting, outdoor games and autumn colourings. 

 

With lots of leftover apples from this weeks snack time, we decided not to let them go to waste. The children made apple monsters adding strawberries and edible eyes. Not an apple was wasted!

 

 

 

Week beginning 12th September

 

Our younger room have been working on Receptions topic 'All about me'. They have made some lovely all about me rainbows, spinners caterpillars and collages. 

Our older room have made some lovely crafts for the year 4 topic 'Rainforest'. Beautiful toucans, rainforest masks and snakes. Friday all the children had a messy afternoon with autumn leaf paintings.

 

 

Week beginning 5th September

 

Our younger room have been enjoying back to school activities making back to school backpacks and creating our houses out of lolly sticks drawing pictures of our family members. 

Our older room have started some activities on the year 3 topic Ancient Egypt. Making flags, modelling the shpynx and 3d pyramids. 

Both rooms also created a fantastic display for the school reception area out of handprints. Please pop in to have a look.

Pizza making end of term 

Friday 15th June

 

We have had a great week with sand art, marble painting and summer related crafts. Friday the children had a brilliant time making their own orbeez sensory ball. 

Friday 8th July 

 

This week the younger children have made some very creative and glittery nature wands among many other things. 

The older room also created some fantastic fork painting trees. 

On our Friday session we carried out the skittles and water experiment and the children created some beautiful rainbow pictures. 

Friday 1st July 

 

We have had a fun two weeks in the After School Club. Cookie making and lots of arts and crafts. Today the children enjoyed magical water pens. They were able to draw a picture on a plate and add some water, then the picture lifts off of the plate and becomes floating art. The children were very creative with their ideas. 

20th June week

 

We have spent the week making lots of lovely things for Fathers day or somebody special in the children's lives. Its great so see how everyone has a different idea of how they want to create their artwork. We have lots of talented children in ASC. 

It has been a particularly hot week, so for our fun Friday afternoon activity, the children were needed to rescue animals out of blocks of ice. We also had a water play tea party in the shade. 

6th June week 

 

Lots of lovely crafts made this week by both the older and younger children. 

Friday afternoon was spent carrying out a science experiment using milk. We were able to create miniature fireworks on a plate. The children had lots of fun. 

16th May week 

We have had a week full of celebrating the Queens Jubilee. Lots of Royal crafts and fun. The children made some fantastic queen stamps which will be used as bunting decorations at the Queens Jubilee school lunch. Friday afternoon the children made their own play dough. They used this to get creative and decorate work sheets.  

9th May week 

This week we have been able to have fun with a variety of different crafts. A few of the children have enjoyed planting wild flowers and are now watching them grow day by day.

Friday afternoon was spent making bubble wands in the sunshine. 

25th April week

 

This week our younger room have been doing lots of seaside crafts as the year 1 topic is 'Oh i do like to be beside the seaside!'. We have made fish, lighthouses, and ice cream plates. Our older room have been enjoying the year 4 topic 'Japan'. The have made some beautiful blossom tree pictures, origami and pretend sushi. 

 

Friday then finished off with lots of mess making cornflour putty. We also made some bracelets and necklaces, played outside with our new equipment which the children are so happy about and once everybody was worn out we went to the hall for dinner and to watch Madagascar 3. 

21st March Week 

 

We have had a lovely week creating lots of beautiful crafts for Mothers day or somebody special in the family. Pictures cannot be added until Mothers day has passed as we are hoping to keep it a surprise until then.

We can however share the pictures of the beautiful cupcakes made today for the mums or special person the children have chosen, as you will all see these today when they come home. 

The children loved making these and had so much fun. 

14th March week 

 

This week both rooms have had a fun week doing various different crafty activities. The older room have had such a fun time learning a new skill with a weaving loom. The children have really enjoyed this and are continuing to work on their projects each day. The younger room have made some spring ladybirds and sheep. They have also created their own masterpieces with plasticine.

After many requests by the children, on Friday we finally decorated some biscuits. They were so excited to do this. The children mixed the icing and and created their own red nose day themed biscuits. There were some great designs!

With the weather picking up we have also been able to go outside to play a lot more this week, which the children really do enjoy. 

March 7th week

 

Our younger room have been looking at the year 2 topic 'Brilliant Britain'. We thought outside the box for all things British, including making their own Traditional English breakfast and serving it up themselves from a 'buffet' thinking about what things they would like to eat. We also made a loch ness monster, a United Kingdom flag and a royal crown. 

Our older room have been having fun with the year 5 topic 'Tudors'. They have been so busy making weaved roof Tudor houses, Tudor shields, Tudor crowns and the traditional Tudor rose. 

Friday was a very fun afternoon. We created blow up monsters using a cup, a glove and a straw. 

It was also the perfect rainy afternoon for a movie with dinner in the hall. 

 

 

February 28th week 

 

 

We started the week by making some decorations for the lunch hall for world book day. The children decorated a piece of bunting each to be hung up with a picture of their favourite book on. 

 

This week, the younger children have been having fun with the year 1 topic 'Carnival of Animals'. We have made four animals, each from different countries. The older room have been looking at the year 4 topic 'Raging Romans'. They have made some very beautiful pieces of artwork including Roman vases and shields. 

 

Friday afternoon, we completed a science experiment making lava lamps at the request of the children, they all had great enjoyment from mixing the ingredients and seeing the reaction. 

February 22nd Week 

 

This week our younger room have been focusing on Receptions topic 'our world' of space and superheroes. We have made superhero masks, captain America shields, rockets and alien spaceships. 

 

Our older room have been basing their activities on the year 3 topic 'Extreme Earth'. They have made some superb mountain and Tsunami pictures along with Volcano's and a fun geography task. 

 

We finished off a long week by making slime on Friday afternoon and a movie in the hall with dinner. 

Celebrating valentines

"Growing kindness one hand at a time" our new room display. Each child traced their hand and wrote down something they do that is kind, we then added to the tree. The children can add to the tree each time they feel they want to share something kind they have done.

LAST DAY OF HALF TERM

(HALLOWEEN HUNT)

 

For the last day of half term, we enjoyed a Halloween hunt. The children were each given a trail map and pictures to find. All pictures were scattered around the school and the children had to find all the pictures which had a letter on the back. These letters would spell out a word. On return to the room, if they said the correct word they were then gifted with a small Halloween treat. 

We finished off day by making Halloween bookmarks and a movie in the hall whilst eating dinner.
