No one expects parents to act as teachers, or to provide the activities and feedback that  school would. Parents and carers should do their best to help children and support their learning while dealing with other demands.

 

Top tips!

• Structure the day - set up a timetable with regular get up and go to bed times, meal times and break times
• Keep active – children are used to regular play at lunch and break times.  Movement breaks are helpful to refocus and maintain attention
• Sit with your child as they work but allow them to work independently for appropriate periods.  They wouldn't be working with an adult all the time in school. 
• Try to break down the work into shorter periods, based on how long they can concentrate
